If you search the web for tips on securing your home, I bet my family jewels 90 percent of the time you will find yourself trapped in a labyrinth  of security alarm equipment that range from the primitive dog-on-a-leash to high technology motion sensor devices set by voice commands, with brands varying from A to eternity. The choices are so many migraine bells will be the first alarm you’re going to hear.

Don’t get me wrong, I am for these modern security alarm equipment but I just wish there were half as many articles on the web on how to choose the best security alarm equipment as there are articles enumerating them. This is why I have tried to make my own short list of advices in choosing your own security alarm equipment:

  1. Know the value of the things you are trying to protect. Cheap security alarm equipment may not be a good deal considering the value of your property.
  2. Decide whether you need a hardwired or wireless security alarm equipment and system. With hardwired systems the costs are usually lower and there is no need for batteries, the problem though is in installing the wires especially with multi-storey or shared houses.
  3. Find out if the company selling the security alarm equipment is insured so that if anything should happen to them, you are still protected.
  4. Research about the company and read reviews about the quality of their security alarm equipment and services.
  5. Read fine prints in the agreements, sometimes the advertised cost may not be all there is to it.
  6. Make sure that the company offers sufficient warranty for a reasonable period. Having your security alarm equipment fixed independently may cost you more later.
